I'm getting ready to build a cell from scratch, so I looked at openafs.org.
Are the most recent/up-to-date documents
than the ones from Transarc? (ie,
http://www.openafs.org/pages/doc/QuickStartUnix/auqbg000.htm)

That is not a question for this list. This list is for those trying to
fix the current state of the documetation. The existance of this list
is probably a good indication that those docs are not the most up to
date.

I'd suggest looking through the openafs-info mailing list archives for
various tutorials that others have posted. You especially DO NOT want
to use kaserver on a new cell.
